What Is the AMC 8?
The AMC 8 is a 25-question, 40-minute mathematics competition for students in Grade 8 and below. Organized by the Mathematical Association of America (MAA), it introduces students to mathematical problem-solving beyond the standard school curriculum and focuses on applying mathematical reasoning to challenging problems.
The competition covers areas such as counting and probability, estimation, proportional reasoning, elementary geometry, spatial visualization, and interpreting graphs and tables. Some questions may also involve beginning algebra concepts, including linear and quadratic functions and coordinate geometry.
